I really enjoyed that guy explaining the social networking on utube. Yeaaaaaa! Booooo!
He's funny and so easy to understand with his stick figure drawings. What a hoot!
I followed My Space for a bit, then when Facebook came along, I created a profile. I really only use it for personal use (I post pictures of Hershey and family so I can share them quickly with my kids and others who live a distance) and to write comments and short messages to friends and family. But I joined the ALA Member group and Library 2.0 as part of my training assignment. I am on Facebook most days at least once after work, so I figure it would be a good way to keep up with ALA news.
I read the ways to use Facebook professionally. Some interesting concepts and ideas.
I know I could probably use Facebook to do all that the article suggests, but I wonder if that would take the fun out of it for me personally. I suppose I could set up a work account and a personal one? I will have to reflect on it a bit! There seemed to be many comments supporting both sides.
I think its easy to understand why Facebook might be the fastest growing social network. It's easy to use, easy to set up and you can connect with so many people from across the country without committing to long distance telephone calls, or letter writing or emailing. You can touch base quickly and be efficient. You can choose to get involved or not get involved with someone and you can be in control. It can be addicting though reading others' status and comments, but I think it's fun.
